Big streamers have benefitted from better union deals, fewer royalties, and circumventing existing regulation like the Paramount Decrees (prior to 2020). They don't think they should play their part and fund Canadian content like other Canadian broadcasters

Regardless of industry woes, the threat of AI, or incompetent leadership, we genuinely believe that there has never been a better or more important time to be a filmmaker 🎥

Write a script, pickup a camera, tell your stories... the world needs them 🫶

Can't wait for the Tech Broligarchs and the Republicons to start pushing the narrative that we shouldn't worry about the death of Hollywood because it was all "woke garbage" to begin with and Gen AI will fill the gap /s 🫠

Fun fact!

Trump removed the Paramount decrees in 2020, an infamous anti-trust law suit that prevented the major studios from price fixing and market manipulation.

Trump trying to single-handedly destroy everything that made America great to begin with is poetic irony that most writers and filmmakers will never be able to achieve in their work

Can't wait to see how season 2 of The Rehearsal plays out! Bigger sets, higher stakes, more Fielder Method 🤩😂

It's a hilarious mix of social pressure and institutional hierarchy, through the lens of aviation safety. Perfect timing, I daresay.

Maybe a clown can change the world after all?

Have You Seen Mickey 17?

Fantastic performances and a certain charm that's hard to describe. It's a great film that sets itself up for a truly memorable experience but struggles to stick the landing in the 3rd act. Definitely worth the watch for fans of Sci Fi Comedy.

IMO Severance is the first show to capture the magic of LOST. Watching every Friday then surfing the web for hours reading all the theories bring me back to Wednesday nights circa 2005 and there's something special in that.

Looking forward to the final stretch of Season 2 💊

When we shot I'm Not a Robot (2021) we paid homage to one of our favorite films, Ex Machina. Watch this scene comparison where we parodied the moments before Max/Caleb take drastic measures to discover if they are actually a Robot 🔪🤖👀😂

Naomi Ackie tells us about how Robert Pattinson played 2 versions of himself in ‘MICKEY 17’, with help from a stunt double.

“I guess the coolest part for me was watching Rob switch between the two in any given circumstance”

Arts works like sports; when you see someone like you succeed it inspires the next generation to meet them at that level. Congrats to Zilbalodis, their team, and the entire Latvian filmmaking community. We're looking forward to seeing the doors it opens and the next generation of Latvian films 🎥🤩
"No genuinely independently-made film has ever triumphed in the Best Animated Feature category — until now."

The success of Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis' #Flow at last night's Oscars "is a sea-change of a win," writes @thenuge.bsky.social.

A testament to the importance of supporting independent films 🎥
Sean Baker made history on Sunday as the first filmmaker to earn four Oscars in one night for the same movie.

“Doing so requires wearing a lot of hats, and Baker, who started his career in ultra-low-budget independent films, has a deep hatrack,” our movie critic writes.
The Fairy Tale Night of Sean Baker, Director of Dreams Gone Awry
Baker’s four Oscars for “Anora” are validation of his sensitive portrayals of people on the margins who always seem to come up short.
