For the New Testament, I like David Bentley Hart’s translation and Robert Alter‘s for the Hebrew Bible.
I like the KJV, but the other “official” translations read like they were written by committee and feel lifeless to me

Agreed, but what is also missing in both articles is that the bills don’t need Newsom’s signature to become law. They do so automatically unless he vetoes them.

For me, it’s because it’s a euphemism and like all euphemisms it carries a whiff of shame

But it changes a ton once you start talking about civil disobedience and again once you start talking about clandestine acts that might include something like vandalism.

Number one thing you can do is help them get a lawyer if they don’t have one already. They’ll be familiar with the process and risks involved. Consider a fundraiser if necessary.

The harm isn’t so much in them succeeding on guns. It’s in the effort to establish the predicate that trans people are mentally ill and dangerous.
