Urban Farmer. Aquaponics, Hydroponics, Regenerative Soil, and much more. Let's work together to build a thriving Local Food System.
The farms that survive aren’t the ones that dazzle.

I know two farms. One raised millions and built a high-tech marvel with robotic pickers and proprietary parts. The other? A modular greenhouse built with off-the-shelf hardware and a local crew trained to fix it.

Guess which one failed first?

I just posted an essay on Substack. If you're interested in building a local food system, or just having one, I'd love for you to take a look & leave a comment. This is going to take the village to build, and I think the future is going to taste pretty good...

Rains will be here around 4pm...

Need to get my coffee finished and get this new shed built. Got the site cleared and the base frame built yesterday. Now to finish the deck, level the frame, and assemble the shed.

Simple day ahead.

Happy day in the greenhouse today... Have some new seeds sprouting - this is one I am super excited to play with in 2025.

Who has ever heard of Epazote before?

Nothing better than a happy crew laughing and singing as they complete their tasks!

It is possible to have high quality AND high productivity AND high morale!

I love this team!

Had to take a picture of our current crop of Cilantro Microgreens. Hate to say it, but we struggled with these for a while...

I think we have it figured out now. Now to just find a home for them.

Who wants some?

Today was a fun day in the greenhouse, so I thought I would take a moment to share some of the pretty pictures I got.

I spent half the day planning harvests, payment gateways, and educational plans, but the rest of the day, I got to actually build some walls and such for the garden shed.

This was the farm walk-in cooler a week ago. Such a good feeling to know that all of this fresh, healthy, quality food goes out to the local community.

I just want to grow food, and help others to do the same.

So, I am curious - has anyone ever grown an herb called Epazote? I have found seeds for the original green variety, but yesterday I also found a red one...

One of my Chef's is begging me to grow this. Looking for tips.

I never thought I would be a mushroom farmer.

I was very lucky to meet the man who became my business partner. He literally taught me everything I know about growing gourmet mushrooms. together we built this farm from 30# harvest a week to +800#.

This was our 1st month in 2019.

The Third Plate by Dan Barber

The industrial food system isn't sustainable.

We know this, & as a culture make no significant changes.

In this book, Dan Barber explores the possibility of 100's of "micro-cuisines" that use the best ingredients available locally and seasonally.

Today at my farm, I had the opportunity to learn an expensive lesson.

My team had to dispose of nearly 600# of produce due to an infestation of caterpillars.

What was the cause?

My own decision...

I am continually dismayed by all the people who refuse to collaborate, to help each other, and who (unsurprisingly to me) continue to struggle / scrape through things.

A rising tide lifts ALL boats.

Collaboration makes the pie BIGGER for all.

Trust the Universe will send good things your way.

I can't grow my own food.
I don't have time to garden.
I kill plastic plants!

These are things I said to justify my own fears.

Truth is, I was afraid to try. I never planted a seed!

Three years later I was growing lettuce & greens professionally.

Just plant a seed & try!

Are there any Teachers interested in learning how to bring Hydroponic and/or Aquaponic farming into a classroom to teach science, math, and entrepreneurship?

I have done this at 3 schools so far. Want to know how I did it? It doesn't have to be expensive - DIY WORKS!
