Just a girl and her poodle vs. the world. I also give insight on relationship building tactics so that you are aware of how you’re being influenced.
But people were happy enough to have TT back; some proceeded to return to business as usual, some continued their protests, and some… like myself… decided that it had been tainted and left. But it is obvious to all that some back door deal/change took place. Just what that was remains a mystery.

A lot of people described it as someone coming in your room and moving everything to the left a few inches. Something felt off, and the TikTok message wasn’t a home run. I don’t know if it ever was supposed to be.
January 27, 2025 at 1:54 AM
What then happened is that when TT went down, weird messages popped up thanking President DJT for working with TT. When it came back a few hours later, another message praising Pres Trump’s willingness to work together was plastered on the welcome screen… and TikTok felt… weird.

So, the old switcheroo has taken place. Now, the message is… your government, from Congress, to a “crooked” past president, to the Supreme Court… has voted against your freedom of speech. They are the bad guy, and I am now juxtaposing with them myself as your ally.
January 27, 2025 at 1:51 AM
Because, remember… DJT put the wheels into motion 4 years ago. That’s forever in the fast moving TT universe. And then, the government followed suit. Congress. Joe Biden. The Supreme Court. They all continued the crazy idea based on national security. But now, it’s an issue of the first amendment.

TT shuts down the last day of JRB’s Presidency. Creators post sad videos in the time leading up to it, some express disbelief. Some do not think this is the end. …And some post protest videos to keep it… and this is exactly what the Trump strategy team wanted.
January 27, 2025 at 1:44 AM
Here’s where the strategy in his seeming hange of heart comes in. TT now becomes a “Freedom of Speech” talking point. And DJT claims that this is a major platform of his: “to protect freedom of speech.” He launches a #SaveTikTok campaign and privately meets with the CEO before he is President.
January 27, 2025 at 1:39 AM
Here’s where I get to the propaganda machine. In 2024, TT does seem to help move numbers with young conservative base. DJT would say it’s a wide positive margin, but the reality is just that he is less in the hole than he was 4 years ago. And DJT seems to change his tune now that it benefits him.
January 27, 2025 at 1:35 AM
You also have that young liberal original base who is growing more conservative (or at least weary of the world) as they age. But the affinity and loyalty to TT remains strong among all.
January 27, 2025 at 1:33 AM
And even moreso, TT saw a rise in influencers whose content was enjoyed by all, but the conservative undertones were noticeable. This included a movement centered around “trad wives.” A more conservative, younger demographic was embracing a platform it was once leery of.
January 27, 2025 at 1:31 AM
Keep in mind, four years passed between DJT proposed a TikTok ban and it being enacted on. In that time, TT users drastically changed. What started out a vastly liberal, young audience in the US became accessible and utilized by a wider variety of backgrounds, ages, and affiliations.
January 27, 2025 at 1:28 AM
The ban is upheld at the tail end of the Biden administration, and users, seeing their dopamine/cash flow is on a limited supply, begin to prepare for the end. People are angry and sad. And now you have a bunch of those people who are well-versed in quick action/reaction. What could go wrong?
January 26, 2025 at 3:25 PM
So, DJT calls for a TikTok ban. Makes it his sworn enemy. Gets Congress to review and vote on it. It gets banned. It goes to Pres Joe Biden’s desk, he signs off on it. A deadline for TT death in the US is set. Then the ban gets challenged, and goes to the Supreme Court for review.

This, IMO, is what makes TikTok a powerful tool. User’s obsession (and livelihood) with it is deeply enmeshed. Heck, they even had videos on the app to say “STOP! YOU’VE BEEN SCROLLING TOO LONG AND YOU SHOULD BE IN BED.” There’s also very likely a data collection risk, but big data is everywhere.
January 26, 2025 at 3:20 PM
And for the mid-level following creators, it allowed you to be yourself and your “off the wall” thoughts, interests, and hobbies to be validated really quickly. I am/was on TikTok as a lurker (not an influencer), and I have a ton of videos saved of things that are interesting and unique.
January 26, 2025 at 3:05 PM
The point of this in-depth description is that users were HOOKED on this because you could carve a niche out for yourself. There’s a girl who pretends it’s the 90s all the time. A guy who chops wood shirtless. A derm doctor who gives drug store recommendations. All mass followings. And so many more.
January 26, 2025 at 3:04 PM
Because of this quick pace, users can acquire massive followings rather quickly… make them relatively famous and financially successful overnight. And the best/worst part? The video(s) that led to that were seemingly random, but apparently relevant.
January 26, 2025 at 3:01 PM
The crazy thing to understand about TT, is how quickly it moves. To master it as a tool for your benefit, you have to be brave and also somewhat have a regular presence on it. You accidentally take a break, and you could miss an entire trend that everyone has rallied around.
January 26, 2025 at 2:58 PM
In addition to this, TT has been a major pop culture think tank. You probably make watered down jokes or say out of context quotes that originated on TikTok and you probably don’t even realize where it came from.
January 26, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Now is it a a national security risk as defined by traditional standards? Honestly, I have no idea. However, it is a powerful tool. Some people’s *livelihoods* depend on TT: their mental health, their massive income, their connection to the world, their business. People have made TT their world.
January 26, 2025 at 2:54 PM
From that point on, it had been a sore spot for DJT. He began promoting messaging that TT needed to be banned as a national security risk because it was a Chinese company. And calls grew louder and louder for that, to the point where official action was taken on it by the US govt.

While TikTok was primarily popular in Asia, the pandemic really saw its success boom with the American public, especially younger demographics (like Gen Z). It came to mass public attention (I believe) when it was the platform where users planned to sneakily not attend a massive Trump rally.
January 26, 2025 at 2:50 PM
The general idea is that the short form video style and clever algorithm allowed you to a) absorb small bit of interesting content, b) find more content you like that was spoon fed to you and c) allowed content to be created relatively quickly as a response to something.
