Oh, actually it was ~3/15. But all of my own time. I then handed things over to my co-author who did a ~12 minute talk on GANs

My co-authors have completed one of the projects I was working on with them before I went on disability leave. Check out this great explainer thread from @davidlindner.bsky.social

New Google DeepMind safety paper! LLM agents are coming – how do we stop them finding complex plans to hack the reward?

Our method, MONA, prevents many such hacks, *even if* humans are unable to detect them!

Inspired by myopic optimization but better performance – details in🧵

Another more specific way people can help: does anyone know if it’s safe to take betahistine if I have MCAS? And does taking antihistamines make betahistine ineffective?

Posting a call for help: does anyone know of a good way to simultaneously treat both POTS and Ménière’s disease? Please contact me if you’re either a clinician with experience doing this or a patient who has found a good solution. Context in thread

Sorry, where did you send it?

Most of us aren’t on BlueSky but @memimo.bsky.social is

Thanks. I have an appointment set up with her for January.

No, I’ve never been a heavy headphone user and always been careful about my noise exposure (before getting ear disease). You can see in my profile pic I even wear “cat ears” when biking
ian-goodfellow.bsky.social
I’ve seen some web pages that say betahistine can lead to increased histamine synthesis. Do you know if that’s accurate? My ears have responded well to migraine treatment so it would make sense for them to respond badly to more histamine

I tried betahistine for about 4 days and it seemed to make things worse. At the time I had not been off diuretics too long and my ears were still fairly stable. After a few days on betahistine I got woken up by tearing / popping sounds in my right ear + new pure tone tinnitus

Thanks. I’m in the normal range for everything in Quest’s antiphospholipid antibody panel

This is Vaughn and where else?

Re clotting: my fibrinogen activity and D-dimer are normal, does that rule out clotting?
ian-goodfellow.bsky.social
What is STING in this context? I’m not seeing anything that looks like it could be fixed by surgery
ian-goodfellow.bsky.social
Eagles syndrome: I don’t have any pain or any trouble swallowing or turning my head. I’ve had a CB-CT scan of my head and the radiologist didn’t notice any Eagles syndrome
ian-goodfellow.bsky.social
Thanks. Yeah, I wear compression socks + tights + abdominal binder. I had a vascular ultrasound done of my neck and didn’t find anything wrong, not sure if that rules out everything.

As far as I know it’s the amount of sodium that reaches the inner ear (and how much that level fluctuates) that matters, not the delivery method.

I use CPAP anyway. I’ll ask my doctor if I should add an oxygen concentrator to it.
