I knew nothing about them and I wondered if possibly 'admiralty' made them not HMS in some sort of archaic custom but apparently not. No idea how accurate that link is but appeared relevant.

Do you know anything about admiralty whalers? Are they not HMS? They must be bigger than the ships boats called whalers if they are escorting convoys.
