I'll just add that it is a privilege afforded to the few to be able to do Science professionally. I wouldn't mind terribly if I got to have my questions answered and didn't have to wait for professional scientists to share my particular curiosity.

FWIW I'm actively working on removing humans from nearly every stage of coding. It's still *hard* at the moment, but not impossible.

In a punctuated way, yes. Though I'd say the 40 some thousand people who died last year from gun violence, for example, were a corroded part of society that, if we were sane, would cause far more upset.

It strikes me as an odd but understandable perspective to grant significance to the killing of one person over the killing of tens or hundreds of thousands. They are both bad, it is just that one is comprehensibly bad and the other incomprehensibly bad.
