Semi-related: There's a recent epidemic, it seems, of expressing lower values as "N times less" (e.g., "10 times lower") which is of course meaningless and makes me a little batty. The fraction has been flipped—in this case it'd be "1/10th as much," but I guess that's way too heady for 2025 America.

If you’re not video editing or otherwise doing work where a heavy operation will hammer the drive, moving large amounts of data, then the day to day differences of a RAM cache on the drive will be mostly negligible.

SATA are the drives that look like the hard drives we remember. NVMe look like memory sticks. This is not actually what the letters mean, but it’s a good way to tell them apart. NVMe are faster and typically what you’d use as a primary (and often secondary) drive in a modern build.

That’s a very common use for it, yes! It also can carry around data that may be useful for functions in the call chain, or things like a preconfigured logger (often loaded with unique request IDs, for example).
