Yes when I was teaching undergrads they told me about this. Almost none of them had ever in their lives read an entire book. I’d assign them a Shakespeare play to read and so many of them literally couldn’t parse the words on the page. Not their fault but I was agog

So true. My older niece is in 7th grade and I look at her like wow we were KIDS then. We didn’t feel like kids, at least I didn’t, but man.

Oh yikes - 7th grade, that’d be a lot to process. I feel like everyone read VC Andrews in 7th grade….though I’m not sure it was a GOOD idea, it was at least a shared generational thing
