A lower barrier to entry than a credit card for the consumer. And slick millennial branding.

Not much. Once the pitch is accepted they’ll sometimes add another angle or recommend someone to talk to, but I’ll write and submit a completed draft.

Occasionally I’ll get a “hey what if you asked so-and-so about x to flesh this out” but it’s usually a cursory edit for grammar or cut for length.

Totally makes sense! I pitch ideas to editors and start writing after we’ve agreed on what it’ll look like. It can suck to interview people without being able to say “it’ll run in x” but I’ve done it before.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried to sell a piece that’s done, but people do that occasionally.
