First painting I did for myself after graduating! It's a copy of Roberto Ferri's "Lombra della Luna" with some Sappho lines I found online lmao. 4.5" x 6" oil on masonite board
Full view of the painting in my hand. The center of the painting is a stark circle of black against a tan sand-like color. Within the circle, a woman is pictured from her shoulders up in chiaroscuro lighting. She has brown hair which is slightly highlighted, and looks up to the top left corner. she also has two large ram's horns which emerge from the darkness and curl down then up towards her chin. The top and bottom borders of the painting have Greek text by Sappho which is SUPPOSED TO read "I'd rather see her lovely step / her sparkling glance and her face" but I goofed up and trusted google translate so who knows what it reads now. A close-up of the girl's face. I learned a lot from adding the cool tones into her face as shadows. It kinda makes it look like she has an old black eye, but I think it fits her skin tone well. I also LOVED doing her iris and shine it's always my favorite part. A little dot of bright red makes it look like her eyes are brown, isn't that cool! And the curve of the highlights makes her pop so much more. View from the side of the painting, where you can see that I've highlighted the sides of the board in a cadmium yellow. I love doing this to smaller paintings, I think it makes it POP
