David, I do understand your frustration, and hold you blameless. I'm not here to lecture, nor am I so entitled

I assume by intuition alone that doomers are usually pure trolls.

But of the sincere, I would try to persuade them to action. If things are hopeless, you have nothing to lose by fighting. Bring your grimness to the party. You're needed.

There is literally nothing about the government's case that I trust.

If they must create more districts with margins shallow enough to drown in a wave election, I suppose we should oblige them with one

Bernie Taupin has always been terrible -- nearly all of EJ's early hits were complete word salad. I never understood why such a talented musician would choose such a limited lyricist

Good times for the voodoo doll biz

Jeffries forfeited a claim to leadership when he failed to endorse the party nominee for NYC mayor. But on impeachment I think he's right. No Dem-sponsored resolution can ever pass. While some R's look ready to throw Hegseth overboard, let them lead. Then jump onboard. That gets it done.

When asked who ordered him to launch the strike, I don't think he has a choice but to answer honestly. To me, that's the most important question here.

For if he isn't in it to inform, why get into the business at all?

One need look no farther than Fox News' own abysmal history to figure that out. He's in it to broadcast propaganda. Foreign-sponsored propaganda at that.

Shut down this poisoned well and Americans may get facts again, and care.

Same for the Murdochs and Fox News. Rupert has American citizenship but belongs more to the Australian/British upper class than to American society. He has no idea what it's like to live as an ordinary American. He's not in the business to inform ordinary Americans.

THAT is what disqualifies him.

To invent an example:

My home newspaper was owned for years by Amon Carter. Amon lived here, shopped here, sent his kids to school here. He aimed to improve his community because he was part of it.

That paper is now owned by McClatchy, who has no stake. What they print or don't matters not to them

It may not be noble to resort to nativist arguments here, but nativism has potency, and any inkling among nativists that they've been lied to and led around by cynical wealthy foreigners could throw them into rebellion.

And it should. Local ownership of news media lends credibility.

@booman23.bsky.social posted on his service today his concern that the voting public has gone so thoroughly nihilistic that it now simply rejects the party in power every cycle without a second thought about issues. So what breaks that cycle?

I think it must start by puncturing right wing media.

Further, sir, if Shapiro were not the character Harris painted him as, he would have handled this in a very different way.

His response testifies to her veracity.

I was taught as a kid that racism is a form of ignorance, and Trump has got to be the most willfully ignorant President this country has ever seen.
