The team hopes that by adding a third treatment into the mix to target this mechanism, it may be possible to slow tumour growth significantly and add years rather than months to patients’ lives.

New hope for people living with #PancreaticCancer

Researchers have found that a combination of two existing experimental treatments is much more effective than either treatment alone.

They also identified a new cancer-causing mechanism that limits treatment effectiveness.

⌛ If we can reduce the time and cost of organoid work, we can open the door to more discoveries and, in the longer term, more effective treatments.

💊 The method comes at a time when cancer researchers are increasingly turning to 3D models to better understand tumour biology, uncover resistance mechanisms and identify new drug targets.
icr.ac.uk
👠 Researchers developed a method called the Solution for Harvesting Organoids Efficiently (SHOE).

👞 Unlike currently used methods, which require 30–60 minutes of cold incubation, SHOE allows researchers to recover organoids from their growth solutions in under five minutes at room temperature.

🔬 A new study, led by @udaibanerji.bsky.social, reveals a fast, low-cost solution for harvesting #organoids.

These miniature 3D models of human tissue mimic the behaviour of real tumours and are considered the future of #CancerResearch.

🚨 Big news from the TORPEdO trial

IMRT is just as effective as proton beam therapy for most head and neck cancer patients.

That means more people can access the best treatment locally—without needing specialist centres.

While working to improve the survival and quality of life of young patients, we also need to ensure that they and their families are given sufficient support that meets their unique needs.

It is only by furthering our understanding of the biological complexities of TYA cancers that we can accelerate the development of new treatments that are more effective and cause fewer side effects.
icr.ac.uk
By focusing research on either ‘adult cancer’ or ‘childhood cancer’, we risk excluding teenagers and young adults (TYA). We need to treat TYA patients as a distinct subpopulation that straddles paediatric and adult cancer services.

Scientists discover a new drug target to treat #PancreaticCancer.

In the lab, blocking the SPP1 protein completely stopped pancreatic cancer from spreading to the liver and lungs.

Today is #WorldCancerResearchDay 🌎 👩‍🔬 👨‍🔬

We're incredibly proud to have a community that is driving innovation, making ground-breaking discoveries, and transforming the future of cancer research.

Thank you to everyone who is helping us move closer to defeating cancer.

“At times, they are already looking farther over the horizon than we are, and this pushes us to stretch our goals beyond what we thought was possible.”

We are grateful to the family charities who are helping us drive advances in clinical testing in paediatric cancers.

there are many milestones in our history that reflect how we have consistently led the way in uncovering safer, kinder and more effective treatments for children’s cancers.
icr.ac.uk
From establishing one of the largest early-phase clinical trial programmes in the UK to launching a gene panel test to personalise treatment,
icr.ac.uk
Around 1,900 children and 2,300 young people are diagnosed with cancer each year in the UK. While we have made huge strides in treatments, many of these cancers remain incurable or have treatment options that are limited and harsh.
icr.ac.uk
For decades, we have been a driving force in accelerating progress in paediatric oncology research – leading breakthroughs that are transforming how we understand, diagnose and treat cancer in children and young people.
