DR Congo | In North and South Kivu, with no medicines and 40% fewer health workers, the sick & wounded, some of them victims of armed violence, face a harsh reality: they cannot receive proper care.

Last September, we conducted an assessment, and this is what we found:
ms.spr.ly/63329s0MxZ
An ICRC assessment conducted in September 2025 revealed that 85% of health facilities in the Kivu region are running out of medicines, while almost 40% have lost their healthcare workers.

🌍 60 years ago, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement adopted its 7 fundamental principles: Humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.

Today, they remain our compass to help communities affected by humanitarian crises.

Sudan | For more than 500 days, Al Fasher has endured a catastrophic period of violence, leaving over 260,000 people on the edge, trapped in conflict.

The people of Sudan cannot be forgotten.

Daniel O'Malley, ICRC Head of Delegation in Sudan, shares.

“What people have been enduring during these 500 days in Al Fasher is nothing short of catastrophic. Over 260,000 men, women and children are trapped, eating one meal a day and risking their lives just to find undrinkable water. Local medical teams are under fire, trying to work with very limited resources and trying to save lives whilst protecting their own. They’re not performing medicine, they’re performing miracles. This cannot continue."

Victims/ survivors of sexual violence require and must have access to crucial support -- especially within the first 72 hours after the crime was committed.

📹 Watch this video to learn more 👉🏽 ms.spr.ly/63322saPS6
In the aftermath of sexual violence... The first 72 hours are critical to support victims/survivors of sexual violence. Support within this time frame includes prevention of pregnancy, prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, as well as treatment of injuries. Providing mental health and psychosocial support helps to address trauma and reduce long-term consequences.

The intensification of military operations in Gaza City has forced us to temporarily suspend operations at our office there and relocate staff to southern Gaza to ensure safety and operational continuity.

We remain committed to returning as soon as conditions allow: ms.spr.ly/63329svlk1
The intensification of military operations in Gaza City has forced us to temporarily suspend operations at our office in Gaza City and relocate staff to ICRC offices in southern Gaza to ensure their safety and operational continuity. This comes as the tens of thousands still in Gaza City face harrowing humanitarian conditions. We will continue to strive to provide support to civilians in Gaza City, whenever circumstances allow, from our offices in Deir al-Balah and Rafah, which remain fully operational. Our teams remain committed to returning to Gaza City as soon as conditions allow. Lives can still be saved today. A cessation of hostilities is imperative and urgent.

Yemen’s exhausted civilian population continues to lose loved ones and suffer from the steady degradation of critical civilian infrastructure.

Constant care must be taken to spare civilians and critical civilian infrastructure.
Yemen’s exhausted civilian population continues to lose loved ones and suffer from the steady degradation of critical civilian infrastructure. They need a reprieve from hostilities and not an endless cycle of escalation. We remain committed to helping people affected by the conflict, including by supporting medical facilities. On 25 September, the ICRC provided weapon-wounded kits to medical facilities in Sanaa treating injured civilians. We reiterate that under international humanitarian law (IHL), constant care must be taken to spare civilians and critical civilian infrastructure in the conduct of military operations.

When does disrupting connectivity cross a legal line at war?

From bombing a communication tower to national shutdowns, connectivity disruptions are frequent in armed conflicts.

Read more about the limits #IHL imposes on such acts: ms.spr.ly/63325sqiRR
Can you imagine a day without internet or telecommunication? For civilians in armed conflict zones, losing access to the internet or the ability to make a call isn’t just inconvenient: it's life-threatening. Under the rules of war, parties to conflict must not interfere with civilians’ access to connectivity.
icrc.org
Under the rules of war, parties to conflicts cannot use starvation of civilians as a method of warfare.

This includes depriving them of food, water, or other essentials needed to survive, even if it does not lead to death but causes suffering.

Even wars have limits. #IHL
Parties to conflicts cannot deprive people of food or water.

"Atrocities are committed in plain sight, signalling the unacceptable is becoming normalised."

Mirjana Spoljaric, ICRC President, ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, on the need for states to act on their commitment to the rules of war.

The international community must confront a harsh reality: the rules of war are being violated with impunity as armed conflicts multiply and intensify. If the world fails to act, the brutality we see today will become the baseline for conflicts tomorrow. The protective power of international humanitarian law is only as strong as leaders’ political will to uphold it. The time to stand up for the law is now.”
