American White Pelicans and Double-crested Cormorants are inland birds. Some stay here all winter.

Waiting for the moonrise. Banbury’s bright pool light isn’t great but makes for an interesting shot of the opposite bank of the Snake River.

In the spring it is pretty wild. LOTS of birds winging upstream to their rookeries in the evening.

Our favorite pastime at Banbury Hot Springs (besides soaking): watching the bird rush-hour traffic on the Snake River. Mostly pelicans, cormorants, geese, and herons, with an occasional raptor or yodeling kingfisher flying past. #IdahoEscape

This has been an amazing end-of-season camper trip. 1st, we had Massacre Rocks campground to ourselves. Not a surprise midweek during shoulder season. But right after we booked a campsite at Banbury Hot Springs they closed reservations, so we have it to ourselves--even the pool. #IdahoEscape

Far from it. Miracle Hot Springs in cattle country near Buhl. Mostly trucks and little sedans in the lot and locals in the pools. It cost us $8 to soak. A couple of domes without bathrooms can be rented for the night.
