Billionaires have a huge cushion to fall back on. They can lose millions or more and still have money left over to buy cheap while the rest of us scramble for crumbs.

I'd like to see as much of it as practicable preserved in a museum. He should be remembered as a laughing stock, and his reign of error as a warning.

Double points for not correcting to "free reign".

Same. And it was bad enough when you had to wade through a blog post and a sea of ads to get to the recipe.

I'm thoroughly enjoying Small Rain by Garth Greenwell, about a poet experiencing a medical crisis. I actually keep picturing you as the narrator.

It's just a variant of "I'm not racist; some of my best friends are black." White people are always acceptable until proven otherwise, and everyone else needs to be exceptional.

There's an old (black and white) skit of immigrants arriving by boat, then standing on the shore and sneering at the next boat of immigrants just arriving.

Translation: Because I said so.

Well the prison had a lot of issues, and Aug 10 2019 was a Saturday anyway.
December 23, 2025 at 6:38 AM
The only way any of this would make sense is if I woke up.
December 23, 2025 at 2:40 AM
Has anyone checked on Usha lately?

I enjoy dystopian novels. 2025 has really been my year.

At this point it's probably safe to say this was my favorite non-fiction of 2025, probably the most important in terms of understanding this timeline. If only I could talk about the book with others who haven't read it without sounding like a mad person.
December 16, 2025 at 6:21 PM
My first thought was that this was not "new" news but...

"Our low estimate is 60,000 people have been killed there in the last three weeks."

My kid loses two pencils before she gets out of bed.

She sounds like she's talking at gunpoint.

Precipitant is my guess. Or a noun for precipitate but she forgot about precursor.

This was my favorite book to read with my kids this year, and I'm thrilled that you are being recognized for it.
