The issue is "thingness".
We mistake a perception for a "thing".

What is "a brain"?
You all seem to assume you have some object in your head that can exist without observation.
What is its shape?
Color?
Who's model is there?
My dogs?
Mine drunk?
A colorblind person's?
Which do you have now?

That's because consciousness comes prior to intelligence, but the two are two sides of one coin really.
There are no "things" that achieve consciousness or awareness in nature.
"Things" appear IN consciousness.
Consciousness itself "is conscious."
Awareness itself "is aware."
