A discovery culture gives you a lot benefits like a healthy culture, critical thinking, research practices, a common source of truth across disciplines. But practically,
the way to think about discovery is how does it speeds up decision making for the big and small, the fast and slow.

We tend to separate thinking & making, but my POV is that thinking without making can be a load of bullshit. Clear thinking necessitates making, bc you can dig at nuances in making. Prolific making says that you’ve considered trade offs to all kinds of q’s and are willing to kill your darling.

Quite often I think that’s the value of design position in companies and the artifacts we create.
Make other people come together and help them see what we already can see.
When I was at GoPro, one of my mentors was the Dir of Eng. His background was a Software Architect. He said this to me, “You think that the value you bring is your ideas. But really your value is that the way you work, your research activities bring people together.” Research is a team sport.

The problem with following and working with really smart people is that they help you see things that you can’t unsee.
