I’ve been reading Vainö Linna’s trilogy, “Täällä Pohjantähden alla” (Under the North Star), on Finland’s Civil War and reconciliation. It’s a harrowing, yet encouraging tale of a society enduring bitter, violent civil strife, oppression, and atrocities to emerge as a solid social democracy.
