This is NOT one of the ten thousand reasons I homeschool (not that kind of homeschool), but I’m putting it at the very top of the list as of today.
I’m not saying I would start punching and slapping administrators if this happened to one of my kids, but I might consider it for a hot second.🤬

I understand why Addie walked out. What I *don’t* understand is why she walked in.

Addie, an 18-year-old Hispanic Baptist Republican woman attending college, who considers herself “very right wing” but did not vote in the 2024 election. Addie walked out during the middle of the group.

I need to show this to my daughters (ages 19 and 16). I imagine I know what the 19-year-old will say. She’s a Psych major on her way to law school. She has Opinions. The 16-year-old is more cautious, but even she will probably read this as men thinking companionship is a transaction.🤔

And the “provide” element he couches largely in economic terms. “I tell my sons, when you’re in the company of women, you pay for everything. And if you can’t, you don’t go out … A woman is not going to have sex with a man who splits the bill with her.” Signalling resource is one of the three things women find most attractive, according to another of his maxims, along with kindness and intellect. He admits his sons tell him this is a boomer view of modern dating, but “I try to go where the data takes me,” he says. “Research shows that society, and men themselves, are really hard on men when they’re not economically viable.”

And if men aren’t economically viable, that’s when the problems start, he contends. “They’re just going to have an absence of mating opportunities. And when men don’t have a romantic relationship, they tend to kind of come off the tracks.” He cites statistics that women fare much better without men than vice versa. “Men have a difficult time maintaining friendships without a romantic partner.

This is the stuff that drives me nuts. It’s why most Americans don’t seem to understand what pregnancy actually is.
Baby’s just grow! It’s simply science!
It’s not. Pregnancy is basically a 40-week war where a placenta tries to steal as much as it can from one body to build a new one.🤬

It for sure made a sort of splash when it appeared, although the Times author does not note it did so chiefly by gathering around itself pleasing and extensive ridicule, most all of it on the grounds of being a bathetically unscholarly corporate-sponsored piece of risible chaff.

Both women said the president told Myeshia Johnson that her husband, who was killed in an ambush in Niger two weeks ago, “knew what he signed up for”.

I’m just popping in to refute her claim here. As a mother of four ranging from 19 to 9, I’d call 911. It’s exactly what every figure of authority in my life has told me to do if I think I’m in danger. It’s also what I would tell my kids to do.
These people really think police are useless.😳

Yeah, the article gets into that a bit, but I’m not sure how much I’d hold this attitude against people. There were a few economists early on that held out hope Trump would be an anti-monopoly president. Having hopes where Trump is concerned is a little nutty, but some people are optimists.

I mean, hope doesn’t pay for innovation.
Either he’s blowing smoke up everyone’s skirts, or he’s not operating in reality. Given that the latter is ultimately a money-losing strategy, I’m gonna go with the former.😒

I keep circling back to what everyone knew but refused to discuss before the crash in ‘08. I presume Mike Johnson reads (and maybe even hears from) economists. Republicans don’t want to get caught overseeing another economic collapse, but I don’t see how they keep this up for another three years.

Text: Then the story broke that Platner had posted some questionable things on Reddit starting in 2012, including that he wondered why Black people didn’t tip well, he thought white rural folks are racist, and then comments on violence and sexual assault in the military, amongst others.

Suddenly, the golden boy was revealed to be another white guy, and the gnashing of teeth started: “Are we being hustled by a media-savvy white dude who is another Fetterman or is he just a garden-variety white man asshole?”

Or was this just a snapshot in time of a guy blowing off steam online?

Truthfully, we don’t know. I spoke to someone this week who is friends with him who said they truly don’t believe him to be a racist or sexist prick, but that still doesn’t excuse what he said. I agree.

$2 says this woman is staunchly anti-abortion and doesn’t believe pregnancy is dangerous.🙄
If people are this stupid, health insurers may need to cut and run.
It also might be time for states/corporations to start requiring public health records at borders/events to protect interstate commerce.

I mean…yeah. Red states are going to be looking around going, “Why did all the doctors and teachers leave or quit?”
I’d like to suggest to blue state schools that they drastically lower or eliminate out-of-state tuition requirements as well. You’ll save a bunch of brains…and probably some lives.

Last week, the Texas Tribune shared results of a study showing that many professors want to leave the state because of the tense political climate.

The survey interviewed nearly 4,000 faculty across the southern U.S., including more than 1,100 from Texas. About a quarter of the Texas professors said they have applied for higher education jobs in other states in the last two years, and more than 25% said they soon intend to start searching for out-of-state positions. Of those who aren’t thinking of leaving, more than one-fifth said they don’t plan to stay in higher education in the long-term.

How many of those multitude of institutions is preemptively halting treatment? Also, this is confusing. Isn’t the Republican argument around minors that parents are in charge? So, now parents *are* in charge…except when they’re not?
How do they argue both sides in court?

I’m not usually an emotional unfollower, but I guess today’s the day.
I can tolerate quite a bit. Only one party has spent the past 50 years painting representative government as the enemy. Claiming I’m an idiot for supporting the OTHER party gets you an unfollow.
