It's what they do. Politically, it's a winning formula in today's America. Practically speaking it's a recipe for further disaster. But so long as bathroom assignments are binary and church run schooling is taxpayer funded, they're quite okay with the disaster part.

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but perhaps as a gentle reminder: generals have education, perspective and know-how. That's awfully scary to domestic tyrants.
