i remember being in a seminar about US Presidentialism with a bunch of Americans pre-Trump, and the wide-eyed awe they held the "checks and balances" of Congress and the Judiciary and other institutions in was amazing. They believed this stuff! It had all been figured out!

underdiscussed aspect of that was that at the time the interviewer was employed by a Latin American publication in turn funded by - among others - Chiquita (formerly United Fruit) and Coca-Cola
