Not much to say about #TheConjuring #LastRites, but that was an A+ casting for "young Patrick Wilson".
ilglaz.bsky.social
Wow, they actually made Season 6!

There were some doubts if they would.
ilglaz.bsky.social
Only had one of those lately 😅 Probably need to remedy that.
ilglaz.bsky.social
And THIS is how I learn they made a new Partridge series??

(what good are those all-knowing algorithms, supposedly aware of our every like)
ilglaz.bsky.social
Just a ride, a ride, a ride 😛

And while I try not to comment on acting since I don't know the first thing about it, I know I won't ever forget this smile that Cate Blanchett gives in the climax.

Such an incredible mixture of triumph, disgust, decades of hurt bubbling up, maybe even anticipation of retribution.

Oh, I agree!

I occasionally felt that GDT's staging was a bit theatrical, favoring wide shots of people in intricately decorated interiors. But whenever he goes for a close-up... oooh, that man knows his movie magic too!

Just look at these portraits alone!

🔥🔥 Dan Laustsen, man 🔥🔥

On a whim, watched GDT's #NightmareAlley for the first time tonight, and hooboy, how did I avoid that before?!

One of the most gorgeous-looking films of our time. And just as damning in its breakdown of capitalism as it was in 1946: ruthless con men sell dreams, only to leave you broken and hooked.

There's a quote in Tom Shone's excellent Christopher Nolan book (that I had the pleasure of translating) that just gets more and more relevant with each passing year.

I kinda like how the biggest jump scare in #Sinister is also genuinely hilarious.
ilglaz.bsky.social
I mean, yeah, I'm not saying they didn't have their reasons.

It's just that they try to combine different kinds of narrative. A disaster movie is about the big picture and joint efforts, it gives you full information on what's going on. Kevin's story is the opposite: isolation, doubt, NOT knowing.

There's a sequence in #RebuildingParadise that has such intense emotions (all from off-screen characters!) and clear visual storytelling (that use of rear-view mirrors!), you could swear it's been staged.

But nope. Sometimes, life is the best director.

Followed #TheLostBus with #RebuildingParadise, and somehow a doc is more visually compelling than a fiction film styled as one.

It also highlights an imbalance at the core of Greengrass's movie that wants to be a personal tale, full of uncertainty, but embracing that would defy genre conventions.
ilglaz.bsky.social
What Greengrass captures extremely well is the sheer escalating power of the disaster. You keep on wondering:

How can one stop something like this?

The answer, of course, is that you can, but #TheLostBus only hints at the real issue of climate change and politicians ignoring it.
ilglaz.bsky.social
Somehow, #TheLostBus is the most sentimental, least political of Greengrass's docudramas. Still masterfully intense, of course, but at some point I just couldn't get over how the firefighter plot is only there to provide exposition.

Next to Spike Lee's return to Katrina, this feels kinda shallow.

Browsing some 1990s video game magazines, and adverts from that time are certainly...

...something.
ilglaz.bsky.social
I'm in this picture, and I don't like it.

"Помоги найти вдохновение" 😏

As a man in my 30s, I feel that "Aaaah!" with every fiber of my being.

Didn't I hear the other day that his Star Wars film was the furthest in development out of everything not currently in production?

I wonder if they'll aim for a shoot next year.
ilglaz.bsky.social
Oh, they've been a huge part of my childhood!

(I mean, I was a nerdy dark-haired kid with glasses, of course they were)

But I was lucky to lose interest in the franchise just as JKR started going off the rails. One last parting glance was a surprisingly gay opening scene from Fantastic Beasts 3.

Posted pretty much the same text on The Other Website, and earned myself a Rowling-supporting diss from one of the major Russian independent news agencies.

Surreal.

But also, bruh.
