This is probably because, as Gediminas Urbonas, together with co-authors Ann Lui and Lucas Freeman, emphasize, ‘public space is a perennial and open concern’ (in Public Space? Lost and Found, 2014). Cinema as a public space tends to appear quite mundane, but not until you start losing it...

I have been thinking about cinema spaces for many years now. I have been thinking about them on my own, collectively, during interviews, in writing, also in gatherings of diverse genres – from coffees to committee meetings and conference panels.
