It may have been 75 degrees today, but that didn’t stop this acorn woodpecker in Huachuca Canyon from diligently preparing for winter. 🪶

The #BirdOfTheDay 🪶 theme is #nestbuilders.

I've got a whole series for this one, as I watched these these cactus wren building a nest earlier this year.

My favorite shot from our town's Christmas parade last night. #HumansOfBluesky

Well that was a bit of serendipity.

I just got done editing this image from this evening at the river and happened to see that today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #movement

Pretty sure this dive bombing yellow-rumped #warbler qualifies. 🪶

I love living in a place where I can take this picture of December 1st.

For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme, let's go with these sandhill cranes 🪶 #OnTheEdge of the ponds at Whitewater Draw.

Nice!

I like the black & white.

Decided to give one of my somewhat similar (well it has a saguaro cactus in it anyway) shots the same treatment.

This is from the Salt River on Sunday.

For today's #BirdOfTheDay I'm going with the alternate theme of #YellowEyes.

I do have plenty of pictures of Warblers, but this Yellow-Eyed Junco is such a cool little bird.

I also sometimes take pictures of people. Lots of people fishing at the salt river this morning. This guy caught a trout.

For the #BirdOfTheDay theme of #MrandMrs I actually have a shot that I took today.

This Mr. and Mrs. Mallard duck kind of got photobombed by a pied billed grebe (which I may or may not have initially thought was their baby)

We were lucky enough to see wild horses at the salt river this morning. Still going through my edits, but so far this is the best "action" shot.

For the #BirdOfTheDay I'm going to go with the alternate theme of #silhouette primarily because I looked and looked and I just don't have any good pictures of birds on wires.

About to hit the road. Off to Phoenix for the weekend.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Cootsandmoorhens.

Fortunately, we have American Coots down at the San Pedro River relatively often.

It's nice when I have my camera with the big Sigma lens on it with me when the #F-16s decide to do low approaches.

We haven't had our first freeze here in southeast Arizona yet, so no widespread fall colors. But a few of the maples in Ramsey Canyon are starting to turn.
November 14, 2025 at 1:56 PM
For the #BirdOfTheDay theme of #birdsontheground, I think we will go with the very appropriately named Road Runner.

... this one has a snack.🪶

Now that I'm home from work, I remembered that I have one more good #BirdOfTheDay for the #least category.

As much as I'm out in nature, and as many pictures as I take, I've very rarely captured images of #owls.

This Barred Owl at a park in San Antonio one morning was a rare exception.
November 10, 2025 at 10:10 PM
Now, if we're talking about the bird I have the least "good" images of (despite seeing them relatively often), it's definitely the American Kestrel.

Even with a long lens, these guys never let me get very close.
