🚨 Green ≠ always decent! 🚨

Forthcoming in our Issue 1 for 2026, @mathisbachelot.bsky.social & Mathilde Guergoat-Larivière from @univlille.bsky.social use 🇫🇷 data to show how green jobs can mean lower pay & less security for some. 📉👩‍🔧

Excited to announce that, together with Mathilde Guergoat-Larivière, our article entitled "What is the quality of green jobs? An empirical investigation on French data" has been accepted in the @ilr-rit.bsky.social. The postprint is already available: lilloa.univ-lille.fr/handle/20.50...
Abstract: Our article provides an analysis of green jobs' quality in France, applying on a large representative database a definition of green jobs that emerged in the last years. Using regressions and classification techniques, we show that green jobs display lower job quality than non-green jobs, especially for low-skilled workers who experience lower wages and socioeconomic security. High-skilled workers show either better or not significantly different job quality compared to their non-green counterparts. Our analysis also reveals the heterogeneity of green jobs dispatched in four clusters with various job quality levels, challenging the narrative of ‘good green jobs’.

📚👥 Why are some Spanish regions seeing more youth overeducation?

Our authors find that both supply and demand matter.

Tertiary-educated youth are displacing others into mismatched jobs — not unemployment.

🌡️👷‍♂️ Climate shocks are reshaping labour in sub-Saharan Africa.

Rising temperatures reduce youth jobs and hurt agriculture.

Workers shift into manufacturing and services.

🎓📏 Think you're overeducated? Maybe not.

Latest research published in the ILR uses skills data to rethink mismatch.

When actual abilities are factored in, overeducation rates fall — and vary by country.

💬💼 What does firm-level bargaining do to wage inequality?

Using data from 6 countries, latest research shows the effect depends on national context and time period.

🤖👥 Tech is shaking up self-employment in Europe.

🔹 Labour-augmenting tech = more movement between jobs and solo self-employment

🔹 Labour-saving tech = lower chances of becoming self-employed

Low-skilled workers are hit hardest.

💶📊 What moves people across borders in the 🇪🇺 ?

A new study finds earnings differences have a stronger pull than unemployment, but cultural closeness and family links matter more overall.

Labour mobility still plays a limited role.
