The armored cruiser San Giorgio served in the great war and all along the 20s and 30s. In 1940 she was placed in Tobruk harbor to act as a floating AA and coastal battery.

In the early hours of #OTD 1941, Force K ambushed the Beta (or Duisburg) convoy on its way to North Africa and destroyed it in its entirety.

#OTD in 1941 I./S.R.104 was assigned to Fortress Halfaya from 21. Panzerdivision. Two days later a furious letter from Division z.b.V. Afrika, then responsible for the Halfaya Pass, was sent to Panzergruppe command.

A rather splendid picture of an 88mm gun firing as ground artillery in North Africa. The gun is operated by an Italian crew, most likely belonging to the Ariete armoured division, in early 1942.
