Sharing my call and email script re: online censorship. I've been using this since May of this year. I tweaked it a bit so it's more current, and included versions for both Democrat and Republican electeds.

- Script: Hello, my name is [NAME] from [COUNTY, ZIP CODE]. I respectfully urge [ELECTED REP] to oppose three pending internet censorship bills:
• the Kids Online Safety Act - KOSA
• the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act - IODA
• and the SCREEN Act
All three bills claim to protect minors by placing a duty of care on online platforms to prevent exposure to harmful things. But Republicans keep expanding the definition of "harmful." Notably, FTC Chair Ferguson signed up "to fight wokeness" - a label the Trump administration applies to anything it doesn't like.
The people in power can't be trusted with laws like these. If passed, these bills would harm LGBTQ teens, adults, and anyone who needs information on reproductive health or abortion. The SCREEN act will enable constant surveillance of American citizens, and put the sensitive data of everyone - especially children - at risk. The UK's disastrous rollout of the Online Safety Act is a perfect example of how unpopular, dangerous, and ineffective these laws are.
Again, I urge you to oppose KOSA, IODA, and the SCREEN act.

In reality, they are a disgusting attempt at government overreach and a blatant attack on the First Amendment rights of all Americans. The last thing we need is a nanny state telling adults what we can and cannot see online. The SCREEN act will enable constant surveillance of American citizens, and put the sensitive data of everyone - especially children - at risk. The UK's disastrous rollout of the Online Safety Act is a perfect example of how unpopular, dangerous, and ineffective these laws are.
Again, I urge you to oppose KOSA, IODA, and the SCREEN act.
