Alright as promised to @floregonian.com, here’s the finished shawl FINALLY not pinned to carpet. I’m very very pleased with how it came out.

Pattern: “Cathedral Grove” by Designs by Romi
Yarn: “Maleficent” and “Dragon’s Fire” by Long Dog Yarn
🧶
A white nonbinary woman poses in a handknit lace shawl. Her body is facing to the right of the photo, and her head is turned toward the camera. She has a big smile. The shawl has a purple top and bright green bottom. A white person holds a lace knit shawl out, extended between their hands, so show the lace detailing. The shawl has a subtly variegated purple top, and a bright green bottom edge. A close up of the lace details of the shawl, wrapped around a person’s back.

It’s based off a First Nations word. Likely a typo originally, that stuck.

yes this timeline is a rough route. yes there are waves of strife. but behind it all lies the inertia of all things which prompted fish to trot out of the ocean and humans to gather in commune. we are driven to fill the nothing with ourselves, with LOVE. its the unconquerable wind behind our sails

It screws with notifications sometimes, but generally it’s not a big deal. Also posts show in feed as “Hidden by Muted Word(s)” and you can just tap or click on it and see it anyway.

Went to a wedding last year where the brides family was from Alabama and they were like, “everyone here is so NICE!” and it took EVERYTHING in my power to not be like, “yeah turns out this place isn’t a total shitshow, despite what Fox News says.”

this is the thing, a lot of people visit portland, and they’re not all hyper progressives, people can see this shit with their own eyes and know they’re being lied to, that wasn’t the case in 2020 when everyone was stuck at home

I suspect even some MAGAs are becoming sceptical. Some of my super conservative relatives were in Portland this weekend, and they actually went to Powell's, walked around and ate Thai food. I didn't hear a single complaint about the city that's supposedly overrun with pyromaniac antifa gangs.

I have the POTUS’s name muted which cuts down on it.

I have to opt in, it really does help.

I heard it pronounced before saw the word written, so when I finally encountered it in writing I was like, “uh what?”.

It’s follow farming. Usually scam or fraud based, they’ll create an account, follow a bunch of people to get follows back, and then either sell the account to the highest bidder or use it to perpetuate misinformation/scams.

Note this doesn’t apply to EVERYONE, but it’s definitely a thing.

People follow accounts for a wide variety of reasons, some of which are not only not bad, but good, and people using the mere act of a follow as sufficient evidence to suggest that the entire platform is suborned are reasoning outside the breadbox.

We are certainly getting a crash course now!

LPT: do not fangirl (or boy) over politicians.

Enjoy moments (everyone loves a good on-camera evisceration). You can even generally like them. But dear god, don’t fall into the fandom trap.

One negative development: Living in a world where political identities have been reduced to fandoms and people try to make fandoms into political identities

Social media has continually punted me further and further left politically, which is a net good, IMO.

(College also helped but social media was huge)

Like I’m a lily white lady from a rural area in the PNW. Social media broadened my horizons and introduced me to so many amazing and brilliant people that I NEVER would have gotten to connect with otherwise.

Y’all have taught me so much.

Instagram gave me a ton of amazing indie yarn dyers, the Queen of whom will always be @lolabeanyarnco.com. She’s amazing. Follow her on both places. Drool over her yarn.

Twitter gave me my bestest Canadian pocket friend and bluesky mom, @loxy.bsky.social .

On here, I found @floregonian.com and some other really amazing mutuals (there are many but he was the OG on amazing mutuals).
