Finally, our Special Thematic Strand co-ordinator will work with the IMC team to split the STS thematically into multiple sub-strands. We then put these into the strand index, alongside our 39 permanent strands, to create a useful tool for you to find sessions you're interested in by theme!

We then pass these on to our programming committee, made up of international experts who each handle one of our 39 regular strands, our Special Thematic Strand Coordinator who handles the STS each year (this year's is 'Temporalities').

Hi Jeroen, it seems you may be referring to the IMC strands. As well as having paper index terms, the entire programme is also divided into 39 strands by the IMC team, which then become the Strand Index in the programme book. You can find out more here: www.imc.leeds.ac.uk/about/progra...

For IMC 2025 a total amount of £16,825 was awarded. 289 applications were received and 100 applicants were awarded bursaries. Bursaries were awarded to participants from 44 different countries.

Proposals are sought for 20-minute papers on new research on the period 1399-1525. Topics within the IMC 2026 theme of ‘Temporalities’ are encouraged, but any subject within the relevant time frame is welcome.

Bursaries of £300 are available for scholars without institutional funding (at any stage of their career). Please note the IMC’s proposal criteria at www.imc.leeds.ac.uk/proposals/criteria.

Please send a 150-200 word abstract and short biography to Dr Joanna Laynesmith at j.l.laynesmith@reading.ac.uk by 18th September 2025 stating whether you wish to apply for a bursary or just to propose a paper.
