Well, yes and no. (That particular prohibition applies only to events organized directly by FIDE, and that's a tiny proportion of FIDE-rated events, let alone all events.)

It's what chess tends to do, and it works very well there.

Also probably too liberal for these guys (would they really want to join a church whose archbishop-elect is a woman?).

May I interest you in a nice game of Through The Ages: A New Story of Civilization?

This is customarily the point at which England's FA pipes up and says it's willing and ready to host the World Cup if Saudi Arabia is unable to, and FIFA carefully files this contribution in the nearest waste-paper basket.

The Thenardiers are played by Statler and Waldorf, while Eponine is played by a human. This is never remarked upon or treated as unusual in any way.

My knowledge of foreign alphabets allows me to identify Reform and Conservative; what alphabet is Labour in?

Hmmm. It would be a real pity to not cast Sam The Eagle as Javert though; he was born to play that part.

Ah, the Scunthorpe problem.

Sounds good (with the obvious exception of games where it would do nothing, such as ones that are entirely turn-based).

There may also be an element of "I trust the NHS to treat me for things not related to transness", broken legs and the like. Whereas the things the BBC still does well aren't quite the same: I don't trust or not trust their drama department; trust is mostly irrelevant to my opinion of it.

I'm trying to think of whether we have the equivalent type in British politics. And I think we do, but they do it in a different way. (Tony Blair still weighs in on contemporary politics, but he does it from outside the HoC.)

Surely that's a rosahaj rather than a blåhaj?
