Impatient casual 'photobirder'. I enjoy taking pictures of birds - if we happen to be in the same place at the same time. East Anglia and Devon, UK http://microbirdology.uk

I couldn't resist the lure of the Red-tailed Shrike at Dunwich Heath. A splendid, confiding bird, and, judging by the number of birders, probably the most photographed bird in East Anglia at the moment. #Suffolkbirding

We were back in Kent for the weekend, and it was good to walk round Elmley and Stodmarsh again. Elmley is very dry at the moment but Stodmarsh seems have 'weathered' the dry weather well. Beardie from Stodmarsh this morning. #StodmarshNR

Kestrel sheltering on the lee side of a roof, away from this morning’s wind. #Elmley

Two Shrikes in one day! This is the Red-backed Shrike on the coastal path between Morston Quay and Stiffkey. #Norfolkbirding

A Common Redstart that showed briefly this morning, on the Winterton Dunes, between the car park and Lesser Grey Shrike's location. #Norfolkbirding

My last day in Norfolk, for a while, so I paid another visit to the Lesser Grey Shrike at Winterton-on-Sea. I was still showing very well on the dunes. #Norfolkbirding

A few more shots of the Winterton-on-Sea Lesser Grey Shrike today. While I was there, it caught at bee and a wasp.

Apparently, there are plenty of small fish, possibly stickleback, in the ditch by Daukes hide at Cley. This Little Grebe was very successful at hunting them this afternoon. #CleyMarshes

My first Lesser Grey Shrike, at Winterton-on-Sea this lunchtime. Well worth the journey. Not many birders and everyone kept a respectful distance. #Norfolkbirding

Female Kingfisher on the wetland scrape at Sculthorpe Moor yesterday. #SculthorpeMoor

A few photos from the very windy RSPB Boston Belle boat trip this morning. A Peregrine on St Botolph’s tower (an impressive parish church). A Harris Hawk being used for seagull control at the shellfish processing factory plus a Curlew and one of the many seals on display. #RSPBBostonBelle

Ouse Washes this afternoon, from the Stockdales hide. Female Marsh Harrier with green H1 wing tags (and a rat for lunch), 2 Glossy Ibis (15 reported at another hide) and a flight of Cattle Egrets, disturbed by a Marsh Harrier.

Two WTE eagles not three, I was obviously being overly optimistic!

Distant views of 3 White-tailed Eagles from Greenslade’s Wareham river cruise this lunchtime, probably G466 and G463. Plus a few shots of the 5 Glossy Ibis at RSPB Lychett fields. They were showing very well but flew further away just as I arrived, typical! #harbourbirds

I think this must be my first sight of a Wheatear this year. Found at Beer Head this afternoon. #devonbirding

Juvenile (?) female Kingfisher at RSPB Lakenheath this morning. #Suffolkbirding

Small and small-ish waders from the main observatory at WWT Welney this afternoon. Always good to see a Temminck's Stint, even if it was a bit distant (for such a small bird). #WWTWelney

There are plenty of berries on the bushes at Holme (NOA) a the moment, but there was no sign of this small flock of Long-tailed Tits feeding on them. Presumably insects and spiders are still in good supply.

A day trip to North Norfolk today resulted record shots of two 'firsts' for me. The Eurasian Dotterel near Ringstead and the Red backed Shrike at Thornham. Very pleased I made the effort. #Norfolkbirding

Leucistic or possibly erythristic Jackdaw in the shrubbery at WWT Slimbridge yesterday. I confess I had not heard the term 'erythristic' before investigating the colouration of this bird on the web. #WWTSlimbridge

Osprey on the Axe at 6:15am. Hunting between the Seaton bridge and Axmouth. Early and rather overcast for photography was a challenge! #wildeastdevon
