Had a ‘Berliner’ (jam middle surrounded by donut dough) with my coffee and reflecting on JFK’s speech in West Berlin at the height of the US overcoming the blockade. “Ich bin [ein] Berliner” - that was peak principled action by the USA towards collective security and a safer future for the world.

Contd 3. This situation called out for mediation and restorative justice. Criminal charges should not be the only response and with everything that transpired, clearly not a very sensible response. It’s classic “if your only tool is a hammer ( ie charges) then everything looks like a nail”

Contd 2 the police should have done a proper investigation when allegations of deprivation of liberty were raised- and it’s a weakness in our system that there is little recourse if the investigators get captured by their own theory

(contd) Some takeaways 1. Context is everything and I’m glad I saw the video in it’s entirety- because the charge could only be sustained by taking the words out of context.
