Yesterday, about 30 scientists from the Max Planck Institutes in Göttingen visited school classes to talk about #meteorites, #Mars, the #Sun and much more. Thanks for having us – and for all the great questions! See you next year! #MaxPlanckgehtzurSchule @mpi-nat.bsky.social @mpimmg.bsky.social

A collage of four photographs showing doctoral researchers in various work settings. From left to right and from top to bottom, the four pictures show: Two young women, one sitting and one standing, in front of computer screens on a desk in an office, looking at the screens and pointing. A young man in a light mint green T-Shirt in a lab environment, standing with his back to the viewer, his body facing machinery but his head turned back over his right shoulder to face the viewer. A person in white clean room attire including gloves and a hair net bent over a lab bench with equipment sitting on it, their hand stretched out to the piece's end that's oriented towards the viewer. Bottom right, a control room with desks and monitors as well as a large screen on the wall, operated by two young researchers sitting at the desks and focusing on the monitors and screens. A seminar room with a group of roughly thirty young people sitting around a U-shaped conference table, looking up at the camera. People posing for a group photo at the entrance of a historical building. It's round and extends upwards beyond the frame of the image.

Christian Renggli receives an ERC Starting Grant. The photograph shows Christian on a rooftop terrace with the window front of a building in the background. Christian is looking straight into the camera and is smiling. In the Knudsen cell (the small white cylinder right next to the tweezers), only a few millimeters in size, an equilibrium is established between molten rock and evaporating gas. The gas is then analyzed in the quadrupole mass spectrometer. The photograph shows Christian operating the elaborate laboratory setup. A sample in a cup in a furnace, with the scene glowing hot red behind the protective transparent door.

View from the back of a large modern seminar room to the front of the room with the title slide of an exoplanets talk projected. A group of people are sitting on chairs in the room, anticipating the start of the talk. Inside a large cupola with a wooden roof, a group of people are looking at a large refractor telescope. It's two very long tubes on a mount, painted dark green. The instrument is huge in comparison to the people standing underneath it. It's a black and white image of an area filled mostly with granulation pattern, a convection-cell structure looking simular to a very unorderly honeycomb pattern. Near center, that structure is broken up and one area appears especially dark compared to the surroundings.

EUI image of solar corona showing the flare on September 5th/6th, 2022. The image is split into one large frame to the left and two smaller frames on the top and bottom to the right. The left frame shows a full-scale image of the Sun, in predominantly yellow false-color images against a black background. The solar surface appears strongly structured, with a particularly bright region on its lower right part. The two smaller frames are zooms onto this region at different times, as indicated by the time stamps on the bottom left corners. Additional black arrows in those two insets point at six features in each of the two inset frames.
