When I had a small dog we had a little cup thing w bristles in it that we would use to clean her paws when it was especially muddy or wet, and in the winter to get the salt off! Otherwise just a quick towel wipe, but usually something yes. It was just part of the routine with taking off harness, etc

Yeah, that seems likely. I feel like being able to carry with your torso/core instead of just an arm is better for longer distances. I have to keep reminding *myself* that one can put groceries in a backpack too haha
