One last break from doing game art at the moment. Enjoy my character Hareot on this balcony in 16 color EGA graphics (though I only used 14) , as well as 2 different 4 color CGA palettes.
I was in a bit of a mood when I started this one. The initial sketch was done in VRChat, in a Life Drawing world, and I decided to make a more finished pixel art piece. In the mood for some Sam and Max fanart, so enjoy this pair of images, both a 16 Color EGA version, and a 4 Color CGA one, of our favorite freelance crimefighting duo enjoying a moment of rest.
EGA graphics give you a palette of 16 colors chosen from a palette of 64 presets. Struggled on choosing a few of the shades you see, but I am overall very happy with this piece. The original resolution is 320x200, as supported by period machines. I had enough fun with my previous CGA art pieces I decided to do an alternate in the default 4 color palette. Since many EGA and even some later VGA games still came with support for the older CGA format, it felt only fitting. I still find the extreme limitations of CGA art to be quite fun and interesting, and honestly, I found I spent less time worrying about which colors went where on this than I thought I would.

I started my recent dabbles into 4 color CGA pixel art with a selection of 32x32 mini pieces. I like the vibes they give, and I wouldn't have drawn any of them this way without the limitations. Here I've combined them into one image for all to enjoy.
I learned a lot about CGA Graphics and how the palettes work on these, and found it to be quite fun to work with such restrictive limitations. CGA limits you to 4 colors out of a preset 16 colors. Though, its technically more of a selection of 8, and a brightness option. Its quite complicated to explain instead of showing though. If you're interested, I recommend looking into it, just as I recommend giving trying out this limited medium.
