"If I Had Legs I'd Kick You" is a GAUNLET of a film and performance by Rose Byrne.

I talked to brilliant writer + director Mary Bronstein about our mutual love for Conan, the cosmic shitshow of motherhood, and the rare thrill of watching a REAL middle-aged woman's face on a giant screen.
“If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” invites you to look directly at a woman's rage
Mary Bronstein’s new film is a shot-out-of-a-cannon rejoinder to the message that suffering women should “tough it out.”

"When politicians say 'able-bodied,' it’s a roundabout way of downplaying the challenges faced by people who have been left behind, yet deemed capable enough to contribute to capitalism.

But their language fails to hide the true message: The state does not want to help you."

One wind farm in Texas had been supplying enough clean energy to power thousands of homes.

"But now it will be sending all that electricity to Eric Trump’s bitcoin machines instead" -- just as Dad declares war on wind power construction for everyone else!

Trump's war on wind power has one very big exception
The president's sons are using scarce clean energy to mine for bitcoins.

There are many ways to take in Samin Nosrat's much-anticipated new cookbook! But for me, it arrives as a gorgeous antidote to these soul-sucking times, a practical guide to an intentional life + the daily ask of what makes a good life. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Trump's takeovers of America's largest cities are about much more than deportations and supposed "crime." Advocates worry that they preview the plan for the 2026 midterms: the military at polls + ICE citizenship checks at the ballot.

Project 2026: Trump's plan to rig the next election
From nationalizing voter suppression to flooding the streets with federal agents, the president and his allies are using all the tricks in the authoritarian playbook to tilt the midterms in their favo...

Aid groups report that Israel is refusing to allow any olives or other “fruits or vegetables with pits or seeds that could be planted” into Gaza. They will only allow in pitted olives.

60,000 Gazans have been killed. 18,500 were children. These are their names.

"You can't fake that" is a shockingly crass way of describing mass starvation.

But look a little closer, and Trump's remarks are just a variation on an American theme: Yes, we see the starving kids but we won’t do anything about it.

Same goes for Dems who condemn but still won't say Israel.
"They look very hungry" and a familiar American excuse
Trump seemed to admit that children in Gaza are starving. He's just the latest politician to pretend he can't do something about it.

“Walking corpses”: Israel's blockade starves Gazans, aid groups say

“People in Gaza are neither dead nor alive, they are walking corpses.”

Here's a rundown on what to know @motherjones.com. Be warned that the latest images we have from Gaza are disturbing.

They look like divorcees who wander America's dead malls.

But while the look of ICE agents is easy to mock, their accessible masculinity is helping excuse and normalize institutionalized terror.

I take a look at how ICE's bro aesthetics fit into MAGA's larger cultural project.
The plainclothes goon squad
The aesthetics of ICE—puff-chested and average bro—do more than shroud Trump’s immigration cops in secrecy.

I haven't been a regular late-night viewer in forever. But as a kid, the genre was the biggest influence in shaping my news sense.

Killing the Late Show franchise to lick Trump's boots marks a dark new chapter for the culture at large: the art we consume, watch, read. We should all be disturbed.
Colbert's cancellation is a dark warning
CBS's decision marks a dangerous new stage for the culture at large.
