The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC)—a bipartisan agency created to help states run elections—is now considering a proposal that would require voters to show a passport or other proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote. This echoes previous failed attempts, like the SAVE Act (good job calling about this over the summer!!) and a blocked executive order, to impose restrictive proof-of-citizenship rules.

I’m calling to urge [Representative/Senator Name] to speak out against the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s proposal to require proof of citizenship, like a passport, to register to vote. Most Americans don’t have a passport, and states already verify citizenship effectively during registration.
