Gallas-PTSD is a real thing, I’ve seen it in the wild

I always wanted the "Conservatism is actually about in-groups and out-groups" comment on Crooked Timber (I can google for it if you don't know the one I mean) to not really be true. But the evidence is pretty stark these days.

Is it the warehouse from the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark?

A reminder that there is in fact a core audience for this stuff. (Although when you look at the circulation, that core is not that large.)

It’s painful how often McS comes up.

At a meta level, it feels like the gravity of the grey vote and how they would like to go back in time has really come to dominate a lot of our politics, all the way into how our politicians think.

(e.g. EV cars need regulations about charging stations etc. - but we still have petrol cars, so you can't just delete the regulations about petrol stations.)

I'm reminded of various "one in, one out" proposals on regulation. Yes, there's an issue about increasing complexity, but there's also just an increasing complexity to our world. A new technology needs some regulations - but that doesn't mean you don't need the regulations about the old technology.

Big thing I've seen since 2010 (to pick a date, but others are available) is an absolute desire in the British commentariat to acclaim various people on the right as "super smart", "deep thinkers" etc - but every time you look, it's either recycling stuff already discredited by events or just blah.

Said elsewhere, Trump might be wrong about Warsh, but Trump's track record this time around has been more consistent in picking people who will do what he wants. So the assumption should be that if Warsh gets the job he's going to try and lower rates.
