Yeah virtualbox is still an easy way to start and works well. Later on when you fully move to Linux I suggest jumping ship to KVM/libvirt (because it is wildly more powerful than virtualbox...but only if you need said power). but virtualbox will serve you well until then.

For dual boot if you're using Win11 you may run afoul of secure boot config. If you want Linux on hardware then invest in a second machine. No secure boot issues that way. There are lots of NUC options for super cheap and Linux can run on way cheaper hardware.

I suggest starting in virtual box on windows. I worked that way years ago and when I realized I was spending more time in my Linux VM than host, I switched to installed Linux.
