I would not underestimate this. Russian disimformation efforts have been very succesfull and with the USA repeating their talking points, they amplified their success even more. Public oppinion on this war is so important and this has the potential to majorly shift it towards ukraine.

Hes not the guy for it. Supporting Ukraine and taking responsibility internationally is one side of the task. The other one is stabilizing germany, socially and economically. He is not planing on doing that. Will people take him serious if his own country does not? We will sadly have to find out..
