I finished up the base male body this morning.
Today is going to be getting the base structure for the 8 frame walking animation.

I will need to make a back view, but luckily I dont need full rotations, so that will save a bunch of work... whew!

Another process post.

Experimenting with a 3 colour cell shader visual style.
I need to do proper colour palette and tone down the muscles some, but its a concept anyways and will be in greyscale for ingame skin colour selection, plus swappable heads for customization.

This morning's project... a basic 2D ragdoll to make an animation walk template and and get some basic movement into game. I will work on actual character designs later.

A few tweaks done to the tile maps after seing it in engine to remove visible seams but overall I am happy with the shapes.

Now on to some rendering!

Today is playing around with a seamless background for the underground world where tiles are dug out. Top and fill tiles with a couple varients to break things up. Am going to pop into the game engien to make sure it works before rendering it out.

My previous tilesets for stone and dirt did not work the way I wanted with shaders in game for day/night, so new approach! I am much happier with how this one worked out, so lost time but lesson learned and experience gained. 🎨👍🍻

For the last three days I have been experimenting and figuring out a way to do a #2D #pixleart dirt style that I like, I think I finally figured it out.

Though it is going to be a pain in the ass to make the full tileset.

Well, as always with learning, the right tool for the job is the best way to improve...

So, I switched over to #Aseprite to create my sprite animations.
A much nicer experience for creating and testing animated sprites!

From Noob to... well less Noobish... 😄

Back and forth between 2D and 3D game assets, playing around with more styles. Today I was experimenting more with #PixelArt with hair and gear layer styles, and colour tones.

Trying to keep things super simple yet not cartoony.
I like how this concept style turned out.

Day 1: Learning and playing with Blender interface.
Day 2: Mutilple low poly figure builds.
Day 3: Learning basic rigging and Inverse Kinematics.
Day 4: Learning UV unwrapping fundamentals.

After that, going back to learn more in depth about IK for joint constraints. 🥴

Well.
Spent some time today learning Blender today.
Started a low poly model for fun, good way to learn.

The last 3D I did was way back with Max 2, but I have done a bunch of 2D AutoCad for industrial manufacturing.

Trying to pretend this is just a new tool design...

Watched teh #Canucks game then came back to the artboard, finished one of the side profiles. But, the crappy part about my directional lighting choice on art assets... I can.t flip assets.

Crap.
Rookie mistake.

Front and back.
Left, right and quarters to go. Then I cen go mack to some scripting to move (slide) him around in game before doing the animations.

I probably should have just done 3D... 🫤

Pulled apart to show all the 2D painted pieces, helps me see if I accidentally painted ont he wrong layer at any point.

On to the hair and loincloth back views.

Just the hands left.
After yesterday's playing around with process, this next pose was about 75% faster to do.

Will probably create some quick actions to speed it up more, though want to get a couple more done before hand.

Every artist has their Achilles heel, hands, feet, whatever.
Mine is the back of the knee.

Took 7 attempts to just get a simple shape.
A pain in the ass...

This morning's experiment -- export the pixel art to the different rez ratios. From 256px > 128px > 64px > 32px.

Even with detail loss, I am happy with my options.

My intent was to scale to 128 for ingame, but now... maybe 64?
Was a good learning experience regardless.
