In WWI, the British Navy lost two subs sunk, four more damaged, and 105 killed in a battle against...no one. They just kept running into each other.

They'll end up matching with someone who also used ChatGPT for their Hinge profile, and the pair of them will have 40 adequate, largely uncommunicative years together. A love story for our era.

Nothing speaks to 2025 MLB like a guy who averages 95.6 on his fastball and barely throws it, because it's comfortably his worst pitch.

They're also playing a game that a couple generations of conservative activists painstakingly rigged for this moment. It should be impossible to fuck this up, they were spotted 30 points and the refs are on their payrolls. And yet...

Bermuda triangulation: a political phenomenon whereby one's super-savvy messaging inexplicably causes them to disappear without a trace.

The secret to good chili is to add at least two ingredients that don't seem to belong in chili. Mine are bonito flakes and gochujang, but cinnamon/dark chocolate is a fantastic combination as well.

Inventing Prussia circa 1805 from first principles is a hell of a choice.

A rare instance of a literal scapegoat!

Goats fit this as well. I'm not a fan of goat meat, but after spending a bit of time with the goats my sister was keeping, I found myself increasingly in favour of *someone* eating them even if it wasn't me.

Absolutely fascinating to watch one vizier try and build a massive police state, while the other vizier is busy hollowing out the state capacity necessary for such a project, because they saw a woman in the FBI office or something.

Many years ago, my girlfriend and I went to the beach with her son, who -- despite having two 5'6" parents -- was the size of a family sedan and extremely mobile at ~16 months. With zero warning, that kid suddenly *sprinted* toward the ocean. Toddlers yearn for Poseidon's embrace.

Vlad came into this series with just three hits in 25 playoff PAs. He has six in this series...as many as every Yankees player combined.

Love something as much as Vladdy hates the Yankees.

As a Jays fan, I'm enjoying having 29 fanbases cheering for us.

Crazy that we've been in a division with the Yankees for 48 years, and this is the first time we've ever met in the playoffs.

You possess knowledge that is extremely hazardous to the rest of us.

And one could set a donation goal each day which, if not met, will result in the posting of some of that knowledge.

Not legally blackmail, just a fundraiser with calamitous results if not reached. Totally above-board.

Wouldn't be the first puckered anus to appear in CATS in recent years.

Successful authoritarians have massive security apparatuses, well beyond just the jackboots. Mother-in-law of someone I know is a camera-watcher in China; there are millions of camera-watchers and social-media-scrutinizers and dossier-makers and Trump has, like, two-dozen edgelords doing that work.

They legitimately believe that the median American voter is a 30 year old unemployed groyper* who spends all day posting AI memes of questionably-of-age girls and graphs of skull circumferences, so that's who they are governing toward, and they seem confused that these things don't poll well.

Looks like the sort of junk you might find 3 for $20 at some gun show in Oklahoma, one table over from the guy selling copies of the Turner Diaries.

They're have hurt a lot of people and they'll hurt a lot more. But that isn't really an accomplishment, and they're mostly just finding new and innovative ways to get the public to hate them, which is a questionable opening gambit if you want to become the permanent governing authority.

But just imagine how much money she can grift out of her cancellation by CBS, after they fire her because the news division has collapsed into a money-hemorrhaging tire fire with ratings normally associated with re-runs of strongman competitions from 1997.

The most disruptive students are those for whom the classwork is either well above or below their level of competency, and kids who finished the work 30 minutes ago and are bored stiff tend not to be quiet (unless they're asleep). Tailoring difficulty of work to kids' capabilities is good IMO.

For the sake of comparison, the 8oz filet at the Outback Steakhouse in the shopping mall in Dayton OH is $33. Being 36% more expensive than Outback in a nice restaurant in Washington -- rather than a suburban shopping archipelago in the midst of Ohio -- seems pretty reasonable to me!

Going to college means meeting people of different backgrounds and ethnicities and nationalities, and discovering that a great many of them are smarter and more worldly than you. And that can be a learning experience and a chance to grow, or it can turn you into Pete Hegseth and many of his ilk.

I want a 1912 nostalgia slop series, where twee orphan children talk about how great life is now thanks to the Federal Meat Inspection Act.

If we're going to rot brains, we should rot them on behalf of the regulatory state.

More critics. Fewer pundits. 1 deep examination of a subject is worth more than 100 blithe takes dispensed in five-minute network hits.
