Though you see them everywhere, do you really know them? American Coots are prolific builders, making elaborate rafts that require constant attention. Newly hatched coots are brightly colored, making them vulnerable to predators, but helps their parents pick favorites! 😅

Having evolved without predators, this cormorant lost its ability to fly ~2 million years ago! 😮 Because of this, they had difficulty escaping introduced predators, but thankfully conservation efforts have changed its status from Endangered to Vulnerable.

This bird was found entangled in fishing gear, but after weeks in care, it's healed from multiple wounds and constriction injuries and will soon be assessed for release!
