I think we should distinguish between aesthetic changes and functionality — the larger emojis are an aesthetic change that strike me as a bit of trend following since other chat apps have been doing this.

This take is classic dumb internet take. Sometimes software does get worse, but it’s usually just aversion to change.

While the general enshittification of the web is a thing, older devices not being able to handle the expected “niceties” the current generation is mostly a hardware limitation.
