I stopped calling Octavia butlers work prophetic once I realized she herself literally said that her work was influenced by deeply studying history which gave have her insight into the future. I realized I was watering down how truly brilliant she was and what she was trying to get across

These ideas and assumptions are not distant cousins of "I need to put earrings on so I don't look like a boy," or "Let me do a quick bit of makeup so I can look presentable." Those things are related.

The lack they perceive would translate to having my contributions undermined and maybe ignored in professional spaces. The dominoes would continue to fall.

This stuff really happens and that is why these things matter/must be reckoned with.

I do not mind the whimsy. I'm an adult and have been an adult for a long time.

I don't feel the need to prove anything, but if someone were to see me and assume I'm cis with traditional feelings about age, they might think the refinement and maybe even maturity is lacking.

I noticed (when I was much younger) cis women constantly striving to present an air of sophistication, which lends itself to not just looking refined but looking *older.*

They will wear top knots or low buns, not "pig tails" like I do.

In some instances, there are multiple themes + multiple forces working simultaneously. I'll provide an example.

I wear my hair in two braided ponytails toward the back of my head. It's a practical thing I do when I don't want my curls out. As I get closer to 40, I'm sure folks wonder why I do that.

Sometimes, we [outside of it] are still working to unpack and expel a lot of that. Kinda like an exorcism lol.

Sometimes, we never adopted those things and have paid the price in society. It's not hard to see if you're looking.

It's hard to explain living a life outside of the gender binary. Some people will literally keep going, "okay but what does that MEAN??" They do not realize the insidious and compulsory things they do [daily] which are steeped in binary gender expression.

Southwest has made a series of questionable choices lately. I don't know if this is a recent change, but you're limited to 3 payment types. For example: you can no longer combine points and several travel credits.

With American, you can combine up to 8.
