Huge congratulations to our S2/E2 singer guest Martin Carthy on his Mercury prize nomination. The oldest ever nominee and his first solo album in 21 years. Incredible!!!

Big news! In September, we’ll be at the Traditional Music Day in Stowmarket, doing our first live episode!

It’ll be recorded it all and will be on our Patreon a few weeks later and then in place as S17/E4. We’re thrilled to doing a live in person episode and there are plans for more next year.

The keen eyed amongst you have noticed that the final episode of the season has not yet been uploaded.

Irritating technical difficulties on this end. Should be sorted in the next couple of days.

Gearing up to record my interview with next week’s singer guest. It’s the ballad Lord Bateman (Roud 40, Child 53) but who is the guest? If you’ve finished today’s episode already, you’ll know who.

Otherwise, my only clue is… Star Trek!

And then in Seamus Ennis’ version, the “priest unborn” is named as Melchizedek.

Oh wow!! Well spotted!!

Version A in Child:
“A sparrow’s horn, a priest unborn, this night to join us twa”

“The priest is standing at the door, just ready to come in; nae man could sae that he was born, to lie it is a sin”.

How interesting!

The answer to the "Priest unborn" riddle is actually in the first version printed in Child. It's the same cheat solution as found in Macbeth. Keep up the great work.
