War Baby. Seen it all before (well most of it). Cynicism a speciality.
Follower of league cricket in the NW (of England).
It's so bloody obvious. Establish a development framework to include youngsters who don't attend private schools. The youth game thrives at club level yet the County under age sides are packed with private school pupils. Use clubs, their facilities and their volunteers to build an inclusive system.

A whole new meaning for "old-boys network".

We'll have to agree to differ. Has the grass on the SCG been measured yet?

Growing sprouts and then eating them was one of the most commonly issued penances at 14th. century monasteries.

If you're going to get an edge anyway, get a thick one for four, and it hasn't just been England. Head and Starc and other Aussies have done their share. Po faced self-styled "has been" Boycott wouldn't have lasted five minutes before camping out at the non-striker's end :)

Disagree. On pitches like this batters know they aren't going to stay long, however they play. You're as likely to edge a forward defensive as you are an off drive.

Boycott is a former cricketer, not legend.

Earlier this year England and India drew a brilliant Test series 2-2, had you forgotten?

I expect that many fans' reaction would have been "Who's that fella?"
December 27, 2025 at 4:53 PM
I do think that rather too much is being made of one match which because of the nature of the pitch was always going to be very untypical.

I hesitate to offer advice to professional sports players.

The players' only responsibility is to do their best to win the match.

Revised format.
If match finishes before 5 days are up, start again with reverse batting order and everyone must bowl. Drinks to be served on the hour every hour (Min.Alc. 4.6%) Batters can be dismissed if Ump. finds them boring. If result is unclear teams will compete in beersnake construction.

You forgot the MCG Curator.

I've listened since the mid '60s and it has definitely had its faults. Blofeld's "my dear old thing", Don Mosey and Fred Trueman's "2 Yorkshiremen" sessions and others, but when Chris Martin-Jenkins, John Arlott and Brian Johnston were on air all was forgiven.

Years ago the BBC decided that TMS should become more like Radio 5 Live. This was followed by the resignation of Peter Baxter, the producer who presided over TMS during its finest hours. There followed a sad decline to where we are now, when Simon Mann is blessed relief from the 5 Live style banter.

The man at Melbourne is "Executive General Manager of Turf”.

A pitch that favours the bowlers doesn't make it an "unfair contest". Both sides have bowlers.

I do regret the use of the expression "crickets" to mean "nothing" or "no response". It makes a bugger of my feed on the actual sport of "Cricket".
