The goal of the game, beyond combat, is to find nutrients to restore the greenhouses of this abandoned, locked-down laboratory. The puzzle lies in the fact that the exact number of nutrients is unknown!

I'm moving the game toward fewer traditional puzzles and more combat in tight spaces, where strategy itself becomes the puzzle. It aligns better with the kind of exploration and combat games I enjoy playing :)

I wanted the game to include some "meta" puzzles solved by digging into the source code, using the debug console, a level editor, ARG videos I've already filmed, and so on. But I'm not sure anymore, since I've realized I don't really like designing puzzles :(

I ended up with a more cinematic version! The transition back to normal view could be smoother, but it's not bad. Now it's time to get back to the boring stuff.. the inventory UI :/

Implemented item pickup and added some fun animations for the little robot companion collecting them! Good enough for now. Next step: improve enemy deaths a bit... i watched some Silksong videos and everything just explodes when you kill someone!!

I'm reusing some assets from my previous games. I wanted to remake everything from scratch, but after all, it's the same "world" and if they work, they work :) I'll try posting a gif every 2 weeks to document the development... let's see if i can keep up.

WIP preview of my new game: a pixel art survival horror with puzzles, fixed camera and geometric rooms. The vibe's mostly there, though visuals still need work. Features rt lighting, shadows, water reflections and a laser-shooting robot companion.

I've been working on a puzzle-deckbuilder-adventure game lately.. but i really want to go back to making action-adventure games! So i'm wrapping it up by keeping only the deckbuilder part and planning to release it for free on Steam, maybe next month!

Porting to Switch is very easy, thanks to the tools provided by Ebitengine's creator! You just need to write a bit of code for saving files or handling other native features, nothing complicated! Only issues were performance, but that was my fault :D

If you like a framework-style approach to gamedev it works great! It's simple and doesn't get in the way of what you want to do. Perhaps the only downside is that there aren't many libraries or tools around it. Though in my case, that's actually a plus, since i prefer to build everything myself!

Coral & The Abyss is now available on Nintendo Switch! I had to do some optimization, fight with Go's GC, lower the resolution of the in-game videos, and even sacrifice the CRT shader.. but i'm happy with the porting!

Wrapped up development of Coral & The Abyss today, ahead of the upcoming release on April 22. I was thinking of taking a week off after these last 14 non-stop months of development… but instead, I’ve already started prototyping the next game :D
