Oh, God, this is one of those "where do I even start" things, because Roblox is, like, *fractally* fucked. They are terrible at content moderation. A lot of the games are rated incorrectly, so kids can encounter graphic content (sex or violence) out of nowhere --

--and A Lot of Roblox developers think it's a funny meta-game to sneak that kind of stuff into their game and get an "okay for kids" rating. Some of them are doing it because they think it's hilarious! Some are predators using Roblox for grooming, because it is *the* online platform for that.

The platform is the home of a huge number of predators who engage in sextortion, trade child sex abuse material, coerce kids into producing more of it, engage in suicide grooming, coerce kids into self-harm or harming their families, coerce kids into committing hate crimes, and so much more.

It is *extremely* easy for people to circumvent Roblox's alleged safety features. The parental controls are wholly inadequate, the restrictions on who can contact underage users are really easy to work around, the age verification they've implemented is wildly inaccurate and unreliable...

Like, you could write an entire book length case study in "ways Roblox completely fails at Trust and Safety". I advise every parent I know to get their kids the fuck off Roblox, or at the very least, directly monitor who's contacting them and what they're playing *extremely* closely.

Like, it's so bad that "the microtransactions, lootbox gambling, gift card fraud, and undisclosed advertising" problems are not even in the top 10 issues!

I don't want to give you specific upsetting details about the kind of thing that goes on, because they are *very* upsetting, but like, I have been in Trust and Safety for almost 24 years now, and it is, hands down, *the* worst environment for child safety I have ever seen in all that time.

Even Discord is better, because Discord is at least trying to handle the child predator problem, even if they're not perfectly successful at it! Roblox didn't even acknowledge the problem until recently. They're *ludicrously* understaffed, moderator-wise, for their size and traffic.

They're missing so many product safety features that any site who accepts under-13 signups should have. They sit on reports for weeks or months. They have only extremely reluctantly been pressured into implementing additional systems, and it was only because of *multiple* lawsuits.

Everyone else in the industry who believes the "product safety defect" theory of suing websites is legally bullshit (which it is) fucking despises Roblox, because they are so negligent they are going to be the ones who set precedent that theory isn't legally bullshit at all.

Because their behavior is *so* egregious that even though the "product safety defect" theory of website liability is absolute legal horseshit, the stories of what Roblox has allowed to happen are *so* emotive and so outrageous that sooner or later a court won't care if the theory is bullshit--

--because they can't see any other way to force Roblox to stop letting extremist nihilists blackmail 10-year-olds into killing their families and then themselves, because Roblox sure as fuck isn't gonna put a stop to it voluntarily.

Yeah, I am certainly not going to argue against the idea that any government, including ours, sometimes tells outrageous lies about ideological antagonists, but asking me to believe that every single piece of evidence we have about North Korea is manufactured is too much.
